Video and Social Media !

Video and Social Media……two terms that are HUGE right now, and also two things that we think go hand and hand.  There is no doubt that we are in a Social Media Era with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, FourSquare, Pinterest, YouTube, Tumblr, and so on!  But we are also in a Video Era with YouTube becoming the second biggest search engine and with all the new video apps (Viddy, SocialCam, Tout, Klip, etc.) that are dominating the app world.  So it only makes sense that one of the best uses for video is to showcase it across your social media accounts!

Even most of the video apps out there are social in their own right with their own communities that tie into different (already established) social media networks.  Plus (almost) every social media network out there has a way to upload and display videos on your accounts / pages.  This makes it very easy for you to create a video and allow it to have a huge impact on all of your audiences !

Plus with you using social media to showcase and distribute your videos you can have a wide range of topics and types of videos you create.  You don’t have to stick with only educational and corporate videos that most brand managers would want.  You can create web series, funny videos, and even conduct contests through videos using your social media accounts.  Social media also gives you a great way to showcase sample videos and client videos to the world that can do more for a brand than any educational video !

Social also allows you to create more “on the fly” videos where they don’t have to be these $30,000 dollar videos produced by major companies, but low cost videos that have a huge impact.  It allows for all types of businesses to get into the act, which then produces more content and makes all the social media users (consumers) happy!

In conclusion – Video / Social Media are two very different tools, but two tools that very much belong together to bring users a great (impact) experience that can go a long way for any business….small or large!

What the new “Google Adwords for Video” Means for You !

Google has just announced that they are finally opening up their new Google Adwords for Video on YouTube to everybody on Monday (4/23) !  This is great news for vADz and for the small advertiser.

After many months of testing with a select group of small and medium sized businesses they felt it was time to open this up to all businesses allowing for the first time -small businesses the chance to have their video ads be viewed by a “super bowl like audience”.  This is great news for all small and medium sized businesses who have already gotten  into video and have either video ads, or social videos created.  But what about the rest who either don’t have any videos yet, or don’t have videos ready for actual advertising?  That is where I believe vADz.com fits in perfectly!

Many people have YouTube accounts with different video clips, but most will feel a bit hesitant to present those as actual video ads to be displayed  to millions of viewers.  Yes, you might ask isn’t that the point of their YouTube channel, yes it is, but most of these small companies don’t have millions of viewers and know that their individual base is smaller.  So when they want to put out a video ad that represents their company…they are going to want something that is just a little bit more fine tuned and geared towards branding and advertising.  They are going to want something with a marketing message in it, they are going to want to add photos, video, music, etc…..voila vADz!

vADz will allow you to create your personal video ad using our vADz video editor.  You can mix together images, video, voice overs (which you can create right in our video editor), music, transitions, and text.  Then our compiler will make it into one video file that can be then uploaded right to your YouTube account (which is where you pull your video ads for the new video adwords).  This will allow you to be able to have your standard YouTube videos within your channel while also allowing you to create a more professional grade video that you would like to use in video advertising all at a low cost.

So now instead of hiring someone and paying out thousands of dollars to create a professional video and then buying 10 of thousands of dollars in advertising blocks….you can create a professional video for $20($50 if you want us to assemble it for you)  and then set a daily limit as low as $25 a day to advertise your company using video.   This is a huge win for small and medium sized businesses and with vADz you can turn it into a great branding / lead generator opportunity.

How to Get the Most Out of Video Marketing

This post was originally posted to American Express Open Forum by the vADz COO Carol Meinhardt

Business, especially small business, is all about people and how they relate to one another. So why not present the personal side of your business to your customers through video?

In an earlier OPEN Forum article, Why Your Small Business Needs Video Marketing, I outlined several tips on getting started. Here, I want to talk about a way to enhance your videos with features and techniques called SmartVideo.

What is a SmartVideo?

A SmartVideo is one that leads your customer to take an action that will result in a sale for your business. Like all business videos, you’ll want to include relevant facts about your product or service, a product demo, a personal message from the founder, customer testimonials and whatever else might is relevant. What differentiates a “SmartVideo” from any other video is that you give your customer the ability make a decision and execute the sale immediately, rather than sending them to a store, website or showroom to close the deal. How? By incorporating any or all of the following “smart” features:

  • Coupon: With SmartVideo, you can attach a coupon to your video which users can download right upon viewing.
  • Downloadable attachments: This could be a menu, fact sheet, founder bio, press coverage or any other piece of information that can help close the sale or drive traffic to your business.
  • Map: Viewers of your video can click on a map to find out your exact location.
  • Buy Now: SmartVideos may also contain an ability to let users buy your product straight from the video.
  • Tracking: Some video hosting companies will be able to set up online ad placements for you and track the viewership to your videos.

Here is an example of a SmartVideo of a cooking demonstration for a restaurant client created with our editing software, vADz, containing a coupon, chef bio and map. As discussed in my last post, you can use a simple software or online video service to create your video. Video editors vary on ease of use and options offered, but are generally much less expensive than if you were to hire your own production team.

Preparing your SmartVideo

Before you select a video editor or distribution platform, consider the following:

  • Determine what content you’ll want to show. Grab your digital camera and take some pictures and short videos of your business or your products. You can also use videos and pictures supplied by vendors and manufacturers you represent.
  • Decide on the message you would like to send to your customer. Think about the best and unique features that make your product, service, food and/or activity very special. Tell that story! Are you introducing a new product or service? Do you have a “special offer” you are promoting? Maybe you want to sell yourself. SmartVideo can be used to make a terrific video resume.
  • Extra tip: Download your pictures, videos, text and any music files to which you own the rights to your Desktop or folder on your computer.

Now you are ready to register with your video-editing provider and upload your pictures and videos per their instructions. Drag and drop your content to create the order and flow of your video and try out some techniques for dissolving images into one another and inserting and formatting text. Most video editing software will allow you to preview your video and make changes, so don’t be afraid to try different things out.

You made a SmartVideo, now what?

Once you have your content and call to action packed into an engaging video, distribute it “smartly” by letting as many people see it as possible. E-mail it, blog it, advertise it, display it everywhere you can—Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, your website, etc. Additionally, make sure it is optimized for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

If people are searching for a business of your type, they might be searching on YouTube. You can easily create a YouTube channel for your business where you can upload all of your videos. Then, be sure to include a link to your YouTube channel on your website so that your patrons can have a one-stop place to see all of your video messages.

Social media has become increasingly important to business and video is key to social sharing—make it work for you. The more people who not only see your video, but can interact with you directly as a result, the more potential customers you will have. So get busy!

Have you created a SmartVideo?

New Features and Changes Coming to vADz.com !

Over the past year we have worked very hard to keep up with the latest video trends and news so that we can keep improving vADz.com.  We have also been taking into account valuable feedback and new video information from our partners to better shape the site and how it is used.  Now all of the hard work is finally paying off and we are about to introduce some huge new changes:

Freemium Model

We are changing the pricing scale on the site to now include a Free package that lets you create custom made videos along with adding marketing options.  We will still have our Gold (19.00) and Premium (49.00) packages, but hope to promote the Free package so that our viewers can try out the system without any payment worries.

New Voice Recorder

We will now have a “voice over” feature build right onto the editor so that our users can record voice overs right when they are editing together a custom video.  It is very easy to use and the audio clip will automatically save within the media files so that you can add it to the video.  The whole process should only take a minute !

New Extended Timeline

The video editor timeline (length of the editor and video) will be extended to 3 minutes instead of the old 1 minute timeline.  This will allow for longer videos so that our users can now record not only video ads, but welcome videos and social media videos.

New Newsletter Video Option

We will also be introducing a new marketing option to go along with the created videos allowing you to add a Constant Contact Newsletter campaign right from our site and embedding your newly created video right into the Newsletter !  Our partners at Constant Contact have helped a lot in getting this new option created and we are very excited about it !

New Flow and Design

We will also be introducing a completely new design and modified flow that we believe will help our users tremendously.  The new flow will be more user friendly and easier to follow, while the new design updates the site more and gives a cleaner / sleeker look.

Please keep a look out for these changes and updates over the course of this month.  We are very excited and welcome all feedback.

Why Your Small Business Needs Video Marketing

**This post is by the COO of vADz.com and originally appear on American Express Open Forum****

Deciding on an advertising budget and determining how to spend it can be among your most challenging decisions. Advertising options have changed and expanded considerably over the past few years, and updating your strategy definitely means taking advantage of the new, digital marketplace.

So how can you create a dynamic advertising campaign with a limited budget? Video.

Video gives you the opportunity to interact with your customers by allowing them to get to know you and your business, and feel comfortable with you. This is especially important for small, local businesses. Forrester Research Group says “video is 53 times more likely than text pages to appear on the first page of a search engine.” Read: video drives search results. On the OurTown website, articles that include a photo array or a video are more easily searched on the Web and receive three times as many clicks as articles without these features.

Adding video to e-mail marketing boosts customers’ interaction—such as opening the email or clicking on any of the content—by as much as 200 percent to 300 percent, says Marc Fleishhacker, managing director at WPP’s Ogilvy Consulting.

You can, of course, hire a production company and have them make a video for you. But if that option doesn’t fit into your budget, you can make a very effective video yourself using simple software or an online video service. You should be able to put together a great video for less than $50. Here are some tips to keep in mind when making your advertising video:

  • Keep it short. Studies show that we have an attention span of about 30 seconds. So if you are making an advertising or branding video, say what you have to say and then save the rest for follow up videos.
  • Combine video and still images. Mixing videos and stills of your product, employees, location and anything that you believe will interest your potential customers will add variety to your video ad.
  • Add a personal message. The message can be from you or one of your employees, or it can be a testimonial or recommendation from one of your customers.
  • A little humor never hurts. Sometimes your own gaffes in making the video make it even more appealing.
  • Give your videos a call to action. Make it clear what the viewer should do after watching the video. Add a coupon or special offer.
  • Make sure your customer knows how to find you. Don’t forget to include your phone number, address, website address and e-mail. If you have a brick and mortar location, you might even want to include a map.
  • Distribute your video in every way possible. Promote your video through an online ad campaign, e-mail, social media, YouTube and even your own website. There are online video services that will provide all of these services for a price if you don’t want to do it yourself.

You may think this sounds like a lot of trouble, but you do need video. Video engages your customer and sets you apart from those static ads you see on the Internet. It allows you to tell your customer what differentiates you from your competition. Your videos can help you have a face they can recognize and come to trust. That’s the kind of relationship you want with your customer.

Things are changing…..

Over the last decade there have been huge changes to the way society interacts with one another and how we go about our daily lives.  We have gone from Newspapers to Online Daily News sites, from huge bulky computers to ultra-line laptops,  from big clunky cell phones to tiny smart devices…and from TV’s to video being everywhere (TV / Computers / Phones / Mobile devices).  Many things have changed, but none can compared to the Technological movement of the last decade with video being right there near the front!

Right now as it stands video is one of the biggest medias across the board!  People are watching video on TV, in the movies, on their phones, on their computers, and also on their mobile devices!  Also, the viewing time has gone up across the board over the last few years…..I think it is quite clear that people are into video!  And for that matter why not?  Video is easily one of the most entertaining forms of media and it can cut down the learning time on certain things.  It is also more engaging then any other media and shared more often as well.  Video is changing the mentality of how we live our lives….video blogs, sent them a video (instead of a picture) lets video chat (instead of using IM), and the list of changes goes on and on.

Video has become a very powerful tool and should be leveraged in all aspects including advertising, promotion, learning, and entertainment.  It has transformed over many years and has broken many barriers.  The question now remains – are you using video, and if no why not?
